2004  Fishing Reports

November 23- Kevin Payne   Critter Getter - Fished below Edison from 4-7:30p.m.  Took one male before dark and rest of limit after dark which were all females.  Long lined Ripsticks (orange & yellow, rainbow trout) and Magnum Hot-n-Tots (orange).  The male fish was stuffed full of 5-6" shad!!!  A great evening of fishing

November 23- Dave Dilks  Perch are running hot and cold at Colchester. Took a limit Sunday afternoon but couldn't buy a bite there Monday afternoon. Was able to come back Monday and get a dozen keepers off the Lake Erie Metropark marina buoys.

November 22- citychief  Limits fishing the thermocline off stacks. Biggest fish of the year are here know.  No need to pull wire even.  Hot color cranks, Tiger Hot N Tots worked slow weighted.8,9,10 lbs. Hour before and two hours after dark are the best times. I have released many large females tipping the 10lb mark. Check out my pics at Bottom Line. Gibraltar   Mo Fish

November 21-Ed Neubecker   I went perch fishing, and finally found some nice ones!! Fished the last buoy out of the lake Erie Metropark marina (About 8-9’f water).  Caught 18 over 7’’, and 5 over 10’’. I fished here from 8am -11:, and also from 2-3pm. From 11-2 I tried other spots ( Detroit light, channel for the banana dyke, and the cross dyke) The channel at the bananna dyke provided a couple of fish but the action was too slow for me. Chartreuse blades seem to work best in the morning, and when the sun came out the gold blades seem to be slightly better.

November 20-Redbone (Bob Piette)  Sorry guys for the late report, been away from the computer.
Have been getting fish up to eight lbs below the Edison discharge. limits as quick as 30 minuets to 1 1/2 hrs. pulling clown rip shads on long lines before dark.

November 20-Tom Ebi
at. Brest Bay. the floating weeds were a real pain and the water dirtied up a bit, but not bad. We only went 3 out of 6 fish but 2 other boats got their limits straight out from Sterling in 18fow..No real pattern, some on pink lemonade ripsticks, trailer trash reg. reef runners,  bombers in firetiger, pink 3/8's Hot-N-Tots, Mann's stretch 15's/pink/black/white (ugly bait!)...anything from 40 to 70 back..  Sure seemed like pink was the main color of the day for most of the boats out there. tough slow day, but if you have to time to wait them out you should be able to get your limit. and as many weeds as you want to make your salad!

November 16-Tom Ebi  Monday, I fished the river jigging for 1 hr and handlining for 1.5 hrs from Edison to Calf... not one hit.. Talked to Sparkman and he finally got his 5 at 12pm at Mc Clouth after starting at dawn.  After talking to Sparkman, I ran to Brest Bay, started in 13fow in front of Sterling and trolled out towards Stoney. when I got to 18fow.  I started marking good pods of big fish.  Had one take back on a deep little ripper/confusion..lost that one before I could get the rod out of the holder. Then got a 5.8 lber on my trusty chartreuse/green herringbone (old style) Hot-n-Tot  50 back at 1.5 mph.  Shortly after that I got a 3 lber and lost the double after taking the board under 2 times while I was fighting the 3lber.  That double was on the Hot-n-Tot at 50 back and the lost one was on a deep Little Ripper/pink lemonade 50 back also at 1.5 mph.  The water in Brest Bay is very clear.  You can see your cavitation plate. I had to troll into the wind to get bit trolling over the same spot I got the first fish.

November 15-John Sparkman  Limit by McLouth #9 &11 clown most caught early

November 9-John Sparkman  Out today at 8.30 got one by Edison moved to McLouth got 4 more for limit holographic green # 9

We only got fish when the boat was headed NW at 1.2mph. around 10am (when we headed off the water) Sparkman had 3 with his partner.  The water was every milky.

October 27-Frank Turski
Spent a week at Huron, Ohio  October 18 -23.  Due to windy weather we could only get out for walleyes 4 days. Caught a total of 10 walleyes for two people. Average size was about 5 pounds, largest was 8 1/2 pounds. All of the walleyes were caught trolling Reef Runners with Fried Chicken, Fruit Loops and Cheap Sunglasses being the best color combinations.

October 27-Mike Zieleinski - Trenton Channel- Walleyes up to 7 lbs.+ limited out in about 2 hours - #11 clowns and #11 black/chrome 20' and 40' leads. October 26-Tom Ebi   Fog was the main ingredient today.  started this morning out from Sterling state park.  didn't mark any size fish till we got out to the three hump just past Stoney Point. finally got one 16inch walleye on a chartreuse herringbone 90 back at 1.5 mph.  the fog got worse!  we packed it up and went to the river.  right off the bat got a 4lber on a orange head, brown rubber worm and a piece of crawler.  lost a couple more. went to handlining and that did not produce.  talked to Sparkman out there and he didn't have anything either (too early in the afternoon he said).  tried pulling bouncers in the shipping channels but that didn't work either.  all the perch reports from the guys out by Stoney Point were either zip or 2 fish.  Te fog did lift around 3:30 when we were getting off the water  :)

October 25-Jerry Hinton  Went out about 4:00pm and fished north of Calf Island. Seemed 18'-20' was best. Hooked 8, landed 5 and lost two of the biggest "Eyes" that I've had on all year long. Felt the hooks tearing out!!! Tried Vampire and perch but action got hot on #9 clown on top lead (20') at a really slow troll.

August 20-Cleepshaw (Dan Boileau)
We got out for a couple of hours last night (Thursday from 6 to 8 PM). Pulled bouncers and spinners out by the canoe hole (between Sugar and the Detroit River Light) through a lot of weeds. We got 4, 3 of which hit holographic spinners. I'm sure we would have enjoyed it a lot more if we had gotten a little West wind to clear out some of the salad. It was a mess!

July 29 and August 1-Frank Turski
- On the 29th we went out about 1 pm.  Talked to a guy that just came in with a limit between the turnaround buoy and West Sister.  When we went out to that area we picked up 4 waleyes in an hour and a half then nothing in the next four hours.
Fished for perch in 25 fow off of Stony Point on 8/1.  Picked up a limit in a few hours.  Typical perch trip.  Most of the time it was a light bite when lifting the minnows off the bottom.  The perch would come and go.  Had to call around to find a bait shop with shiners. Erie Party Store and Jeff's Bait had shiners, but Matthews and State Park Store did not.

August 1st-Mike Barkley
What a beautiful Day!!  We (Butch Chinchak & I) had 10 by 10:30.   2 by Buoy 97, 2 by 91 17-20 FOW & 6 by 88 in 12 FOW.  All back-trolling with 3-ways, single hook harnesses, crawler w/white twister tail and silver blade

July 28-John Sparkman  We got 4 person limit north of Detroit Light house. Most on G.S.C.

J
uly 23-Frank Turski
We picked up a two man limit of walleyes southeast of Stony Point in 22 ft of water.  Crawler harness with a yellow blade was the hot lure.  Took a few hours to find the fish, but about an hour and a half after we did.  Found a school in a 2/10 mile area. Seems like a lot of times this year the schools of walleyes have been confined to a really small area.

July 23-Mike Sorenson  Sorry it's late.  John Sparkman and I fished on the Canadien side and you already know the story.  As always with him (the man with 5 arms all going at the same time) LIMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And I took a sound butt whipping from him

Sat, A.M. during rain My friend and I went perch fishing (his boat) out from Pointe Moulee.  Got 75,  some real big jumbos.  Afternoon we went to Canada by the C.C.G. got 9 walleye all good eaters.  Baits were various color spoons

July 17-John Sparkman  Hi all!  I have been out of service lately -  motor problems, will be back Monday.  Get ready walleyes. jcdsparkman@juno.com

July 17-Pat Waite   Went out with john Lewandowski and Al Ureche and we pulled big boards in Brest Bay near Consumers Power.  We boated 2 walleye in 17 fow with blue / silver Wiggle Warts. water temp 75.5 wind S/W @ 5/10.

July 15-Jerry Hinton.(Island Girl)  Two limits today in front of Fermi in 20 fow. Hot-n-Tots (Chrome/red, hot tiger, and blue/silver with red bill) on one side 80' back and Reef-Runners (metallic colors) on other side 100 ' back. Started at about 2:00 pm and fished until storms came up at about 5:00. My normal troll speed is about 2.2 mph but caught most fish on outside turns or when trolling with the wind about 2.5-2.6 mph. Monday I'll try a bit faster trolls. See ya on the water, not many out today.

July 15-Paul Doute, Jr.   My brother, Ted, and I were able to get out on the water after work. We handlined the Wyandotte Golf Course area along the edge of the channel(25 to 31 ft). Picked up 9 in two hours (between 6 and 8pm) on firetiger flutter spoons along the 25ft edge. Of the 9 eyeballs we caught, 4 had to be returned to the river to grow up. Great evening to fish. Wind was from the NW 10 to 15 mph. The water was clear. Water temp 71.5 degrees and the sky was partly cloudy. After 8pm we did not catch another eyeball the rest of the evening. See ya on the water!

July 12-Tom Ebi    Rich Sikes, Greg Canterberry,Tom Wizowaty and I spent the past week in Port Clinton/Catawba Island.  Wended up taking a charter trip on Monday the 5th since the winds were so bad since we had arrived for our boats. We drifted at the wagon wheel (30ft boat) and got our limits pulling bouncers/harness and a few by casting.  Wed, Rich and I took another charter since we couldn't get out...again by drifting at the wheel using bouncers again, but we got better quality fish...we started fishing in 5 footers and ended up fishing in 7 footer's by early afternoon...that 30 footer drifted at 1.6 mph in that wind.  Friday and Saturday, Rich and I trolled in my boat around one small hump (the only that i marked fish on) out on the north east corner of Pelee in 30 to 24ft of water.  1.5 mph and trolling into the wind with harnesses was the only way to get bit.  Friday. we usually had 3 lines going at the same time with only a very few junk fish.  We lost a lot of fish but had a blast.  Saturday, Rich and I went to the same spot and had to work for the fish, usually only one on at a time, but again they were better quality then Friday.  Our biggest was just over 6 lbs.  Both days we were the only boat out there.  We must have had a few salmon on because the board would go back real fast then stop.  When we brought the line in, the harnesses had been bit in half. on Friday, more than half the fish came on 1oz inlines at 50 and 60ft back.  Saturday, most the fish came on bouncers just off the bottom.

July 10-Jerry Hinton Three limits in front of the three stack (Luna Pier) in 12-13 fow pulling Wiggle Warts (silver and red or green)40'-60' back off planer boards. Fished from 10:00am til about 1:30pm. Nice fish 2-3 lbs. but hit light. Had to watch lines all of the time. Seldom pulled from the release. Since I live in Gibraltar I'm looking for reports nearer my waters!!

July 9-Mike Sorenson  Went to the Canadian side and lost a wallhanger(15lbs at least) next to the boat.  Broke 20lb test.  Huge fish.  lost 5 more and only boated 2.  Was happy to have the fight of my life for that short 2 minutes.  All on Solid gold spoon with an eyeball sticker

July 9-Gary Allman  Took daughter to Stony point , caught 7 in 26 fow on green & orange spinners. Wind dropped, had to use electric motor. She had a ball! I caught 2 eaters.

July 9-Greg Canterberry  7/5/04 Fished the West side of Pelee in 21-28 FOW (Wagon Wheel).  Pulled meat all day.  Gold, Copper & Rainbow blades worked best.  95% of the fish were caught on the bottom.  2 oz. In-lines, 3 oz. bottom bouncers.  3-5' waves.  We ended up with a 6 man limit.  All fish were between 1-3 lbs..  Nice Eaters!  We were drifting with the waves @ 0.8 mph.  Not many boats around, GO GET 'EM!!

July 9-Jim Went 7-8-04 to Linwood. Caught one small walleye and lost an unknown type fish that we never saw. Fish straight out from Hoyle's, near the orange buoy in 20 fow. Used red and green crawler harness's. Winds were strong and waves were 3-4 foot.

July 5-Mike Sorenson  Tried going out in the lake but got blown off, so I went and put in  in the river and got a limit by Edison, the Sugar Island cut and Canada.  All on Sparky's GSC'S   msorensen@peoplepc.com

July 2

July 2-Paul Doute Jr.  Did some early morning handlining across from the Edison Stack with my brother, Ted. Caught 6 on #7 and #9 rapala's. 3 on chartreuse/silver, (2)Blue/silver and (1) on Black/gold. Wind light out of the NE. Water was slightly stained/water temp 68 degrees. We lost a couple others prior to making it to the boat. See ya on the water. PD

July 2-Mike Sorenson  Sparkys GSC "are greenie stickem caps".  Green and silver spoons. Scott.  I haven't changed leader lengths at all.  Call me or e-mail Scott and we'll go out together.

July 2-Scott Kovacs -  aquasport13@yahoo.com  OK guys, someone spill, what is sparky's gsc??? can anyone tell me if you change your leader lengths when using spoons verse rapala's?? thanks good luck guys!
Hi Mike S. been looking for ya out there!

July 1-Pat Waite  Took Al Marchyor and Jay Cappell out for an afternoon of perch fishing on the lake. We boated 68 perch and had a great time on the water. It was a perfect day for fishing. The wind was low out of S/W clear sky's and warm. We fished 145 degrees off Stoney Point in 24 FOW , using perch rigs and shiners. I learned a few things from those two old-timers and can't wait for the next time we can get out and fish together again.

July 1-Mike Sorenson  6-30  Took my wife fishing for the day so she could suntan and I could fish.  Got a limit in the trenton channel following Sparkys advice(always)  using his gsc.  Had one small 7 inch throw back.  Hi Sparky

June 28-John Sparkman
Fished by the Canadian C.G. got 5 nice fish could not get the last one Sparky's G.S.C. all of em

June 28-Paul Doute Jr.
Sunday -  Started the day out just south of the Banana Dike. Wind was from the SW and the waves 3 to 4ft in early AM. Caught 2 and lost 2 on red/white/chartreuse spoon using Jet 10s with 6ft lead 70ft back. Depth 17 to 19ft. After hour moved I headed to the river in the fast water (11 to14ft)by Edison to complete my limit on #9 Holographic Green/Silver.

John Sparkman
Hi to the WALLEYE for this afternoon I'M going!!
6-26-04 My friend Glen Neal report's to me 2 person limit by the Canadian Coast Guard that is 12 some on Clown # 7 but spoons worked best TIGER TOOTH that is a multi color orange yellow and black arranged to look like tiger teeth OK
See ya on the water!!!

June 26-Chuck Jones
We caught a 3 person limit by the "2" stacks aprox 1 mile south of the shipping channels.  No real color work better.  Minis & spoons.  The school was not a tight grouping at all.  Took a longer time than should have.

June 25-John Sparkman  Hi everyone!  Looks like maybe next week I will be back. Pneumonia sure does take the zip out of you.
My friend Tom Sass is in the garage door business. He is going to place an ad in our newsletter, he can be reached at 734-422-0933.
My friend Glen Neal reported to me yesterday that fast water by Edison he and his friend limited in late afternoon #7 & #9 Rapala's chartreuse and silver OK. Some in the 4lb range

June 24-Pat WaiteJune 23rd Leon and I went out in the evening at 6:30 and got 3 eaters by the Edison stacks in about 2hrs. Handlining w/chartreuse and silver #9 & 7 took two and the other on same color spoons. thw wind got up around dark and we went home.water temp was 67 degrees. wind from south variable. All those boats going to the fireworks did not make it easy to fish. One went by us wide open inside of 50 ft. and gave us some rolly waves that would have swamped anything under 16ft.
We also hooked a couple of those silver Bi..hes. But for the most part they seem to be out of there spawning now and much fewer in numbers.   Enjoy Gang!!   "Wishin-Ain't-Fishin!!".
PS. The new spoons do work Sparky but I need to get used to using them and keep changing colors often.

June 23-Mike Sorenson  Tuesday -  Tried going out in front of Fermi but the 5 footers chased us out so we went into the Trenton channel and got 7 in 1 hour before I had to go to work.  All on Sparky's (GSC)  Glad to see you are well again Sparky.  Had a dream about ya last night.

June 22-Greg Canterberry  Fished the Banana Dyke area on 6/19.  Limit in 2 hours (10)  Jet 20's, 45-55 back, Confusion spoon, copper spoon.  Blacl/gold Wiggle Warts 70-80 back  13-17 FOW  1.7 - 2.0 mph      Good Luck!!

June 22-John Sparkman Hi everyone, had a good time last evening good fish. Best is that my good friend Tom Sass is now our newest member. His boat -  an 18 ft Lund has a Honda kicker.  MAKE his acquaintance he is one of the good guys.  He will share info with you as much as I do.

June 21-Mike Macdonald Jr.  I  fished Sunday with pops and his grandpop.  We didn't do as good as we would have liked but we managed to get 11.  We fished straight out of Sterling and N.of it we pulled mini's and spoons (monkey puke did best) and bottom bouncers and harnesses. (copper/gold colors and perch colors were best) see ya at the fish fry.

June 20-Mike Sorenson  Out by West Sister got a 2 person limit and some perch on spoons pulling wire also. Got sunburned really bad so a word to all SUNSCREEN!!!!!!!!!!!

June 20-Chuck Jones  Sat. We were between Fermi & the "2" stakes & caught a nice 6 1/4.  Marked a few, then went out approx.  3 mile in the shipping channel & finished our limits. Spoons with minis. No real great color combo. Pink, Gold & Blue seemed to be the best. We were in 20 to 25 feet of water.

June 19-John Sparkman Wed, Thurs, Fri, Pat Waite and other friends. Wed 3person limit-Thurs 3person limit Fri P Waite and I had 3 person limit.   Will see everyone Mon hopefully as I have been down with flue or something.  All on chartreuse and silver spoons (sparky's G.S.C.) They are hot EDISON

June 19-Anthony  friday-6-18 Got four by the stacks pulling wire silver and chartreuse spoons . One big hog 30 in. didn't weigh yet ,but it was pretty thick . this is my first time reporting ,but I've learned a lot from you guys hope to attend meeting this month ,and join. This is the life.

June 16-Mike Sorenson  6-15-04 Fished out in front of the Fermi in 20 FOW with spoons that looked like white x-mas trees and got a 2 person limit. 4 of the fish were taken in the Trenton channel.

June 16-Gary Allman  6/15 - caught 6 between 16" and 19" on green & orange with leaches, In 25 to 27 FOW in front of Stony Point. Granddaughter, 9 years old, out did me.

June 14-Mike Macdonald Jr.
I fished the lake Sat. morning out in front of Stoney and N. of it 16-21 F.O.W. I was by myself in my 16 ft boat so it was not very easy but I did manage to get a limit. I fished mini's with spoons and crawler harnesses w/ bottom bouncers no particular color all five fish were on different lures but it did seem that Silver worked while the sun was not bright and copper colors once it got bright. See ya out there.

June 13-John Sparkman  Saturday - Fished early morning during rain and after by Celeron Island for perch got 30 some real nice ones 2-12 in many 8-10 in 6 fow on west side near cut in center of island Afternoon handlining by Edison 2 person limit on spoons chartreuse and silver (Sparky's G.S.C.) for those who know.

Mostly taken on leeches/plain hooks, with a few going on #5 Shad Raps and RR Ripshads (Gold)! Also hit Linwood (Saginaw Bay) on the way home. I caught and released five fish over 5 pounds along with 6 or 7 smaller ones. These all came on various spinners behind bouncers in 14 to 16 FOW out from and a little south of Hoyles in Linwood. I know it's a little off our home waters, but drop by up there if you get the chance. "Good fishin often is the result of fishin good!"

June 7-Tom Lulko  Got a 2 man limit between Noon & 2pm. 26-28 ft of water out from Fermi stacks. Planer boards, minis with hot-in-tots & spoons

June 7-John Sparkman  Only 4 all morning 2 of us upper banana dyke east side up just below Huron river. Same spot as Sat.   Same spoons

June 6-Chuck Jones  6/6 Afternoon 2:00 Till 7:00. Just west of Sister Islands aprox 1/4 mile in 27-30 feet of water. Pulling spoons on minis. We caught 36. All very nice fish. Clean weight of 18 lbs.
Planner boards work best downriggers & large Dipsey's did produce a few fish. Ran large Dipsey's @ 35 & 57 feet. Down riggers were set @ 15 feet with Hot & Tots on them, purple & pale yellow.
Dark spoons seemed to work best, Michigan Stingers.

June 6-Pat Waite  Took my grandson out for a short day and we went by the Monroe edison off the bouy" to Raisen River and boated 24 perch in 16 FOW using perch rigs and shiners. Afew were nice and the rest just 7.5" and 8". Water temp 70 degrees wind was 15/20 out of the south/east. Had a great time and Bobby caught the biggest one with 11" jumbo. The bite was on and off but they were hitting pretty hard. Now Bobby is going to clean them with a little help from Grandpa. Ain't life grand.
"Wishin-Ain't-Fishin!!" Pat
