$75 or $5? - Your Choice
One of the above guards cost $75 and one cost $5, can you tell the difference??

At a recent tournament, I noticed the propeller guard that Tom Ebi had on his kicker motor and asked him where he got it. When he told me that the ones that he looked at were $75 and he made his for less than $5 with material from Home Depot, the tightwad in me kicked in and I grabbed my camera.

He used a piece of ¼ " thick aluminum strap (under $3) and used a propane tank as a form to bend it around after cutting a small piece of the end to bend into a small brace to attach the bottom to the motor skeg at the bottom (Tom credits Cecil Newman for the idea). A half dozen stainless steel nuts, bolts and washers and, Bingo!! A $75 propeller guard for around $5.  Update: Tom told me that the price of the aluminum strap has gone up, but is still a fraction of the cost of the commercial one!
