and Tom Taylor fished the Anglers Marine River tournament on Saturday out
of Elizabeth Park. Weather was changing all day from clouds to ran to wind
to sunshine. Fished on the east side of Grosse isle and took 10 fish. Most
of the boats seemed to head upstream towards Wyandotte. Unfortunately we
placed 10 out of 30 boats and lost 1st place by less than 2 lbs. Nobody
scored a real big fish. 6 lbs won! Jigged with minnows, crawlers and fin-s
plastics. Thanks to Anglers Marine for a professionally run tourney. And
thanks to the Stream Team kids for showing support. DWF was well
represented today. Look forward to a bigger tourney next year!!!

May 1 - Mike Wladysiak My buddy
& I launched out of Ecorse after work on Wednesday (4/30) & fished
out in front of US Steel from 5:30 to 8:30. We boated 11 walleye & 1
white bass. 6 of the walleye were females that were spewing eggs, all the
females were released. All the walleye were between 17.5" to
19.5". The water was really clear & most fish were caught on the
stinger hook. Most fish were caught on a 1/2 oz green jig with a smelt
Fin-S. The rest were caught on a 3/4 oz green jig with a fluke in baby
bass. Most females were caught in 20 to 27 fow & the males in 30 to 40
fow.
I also hooked into a big salmon (might have been a steelhead) (23 fow)
that I lost 3 feet from the net. It was a great fight though.
April 29 - Rick Malechuk April 27 9-1lam , started across from Ft. Wayne down to salt
mines , 30-38ft.
Got 10, 9 on pumpkinseed, 1 on lime green aqua glo worm . All males , many
small mouth and silver bass. Went back 5-7PM ,only 3,2 on same worm,1 on
bass assassin, 2 were females, all 2-3lbs.
April 29 - John Sparkman Sunday
night 3 person limit most caught by hot water discharge # 9 and 11 clown
April 28 - Todd Alexander
Fished out of Ecorse boat ramp in the evening. Jigging produced one
snagged fish that was released to fight later. Switched to handlines
and pulled 4 fish and lost 2 others by 10pm. 2 on firetiger rap, one
on purpledescent, and 4th on custom pencil plug (blue head white body with
black scales). Looks like someone else's report got merged with mine
for April 24.
April 27 - Mark Schaller Went down
to the Trenton Channel this evening to do some handlining. Picked up 3
between 8:30 and 9:00 pm. Had an equipment malfunction shortly after the
third fish so I called it quits. Caught one fish on each lead, #7 Blue
& Silver, #9 Clown and #11 Orange & Gold Rapala's. Also caught 9
silver bass and one 10 inch Muskie.
April 27 - Mike Wladysiak My
buddy & I launched out of Ecorse & fished US Steel down to Mud
Island. We fished from 7:00AM until 11:00AM. We would have fished longer
but I had a family function to go to.
In-between the ton of smallies & white bass we managed to catch 5
walleyes, 17.5” to 23.5” up to 4Lbs, all males. We started catching
them in 20 to 25 fow until the boats started getting thick so we moved
deeper while everyone else stayed shallower. We caught most fish in 32 to
40 fow. Most were caught on a 5/8oz wonder bread jig with a smelt Fin-S.
The rest were on ½ to ¾ oz green jigs with flukes & finesse worms.
April 26 - Larry Tufts My fishing
partner Kurt Schroeder, myself, and a friend went out last night from
10:00 pm until 1:00 am. Picked up a three man limit in no time. 2 fish 5+
lbs. Consistent action on fire tiger Rapala's in 5 to 10 ft of water.

Fished the river Wy-the lake silver bass are here already no eyes saw few taken. I

boat control rough. But still good to get out.
April 25 - Don McIntosh
Launched from Elizabeth Park yesterday around 1pm. Fished the
Trenton Channel near the pay bridge for about an hour and a half with only
one Rock Bass to show for it. Decided to drive up river and fish the
north side of Mud Island. Drifted with crawler harnesses and jigs
through the channel closes to shore. Picked up 5 fish totaling about 27 lbs in about 3 hours. Not as fast as we are used to but the
fish are hearty. All fish came on crawler harnesses. We gave
up on jigging and let the boat drift as fast as the wind wanted to push
us. Good luck all
April 23 - Charles Britton Took a
trip to Bolles harbor, fished with 7 other boats to the right of launch 2
miles, 8 to 10 feet deep, water was muddy, I have seen worse 5 to 10 mile
wind, black jig head, emerald shiner, caught 1 sheep head, the big story
is I drifted a long side another guy followed his advice, used same set
up, he caught 20 that I saw, 2 1/2 hours later, I quit, (his jigging lines
were back 45%) bye for now,
April 21 - Todd Alexander Fished
the reef off Turtle Island on Saturday (4/19). Punched 3 man Ohio
ticket, then trolled in MI waters for 1 1/2 hrs with no luck. Jigged
the Dumping grounds, and picked up another keeper. Moved into
LaPlasance Bay and Jigged up another fish and a big smallmouth. Buddy
in another boat stayed in OH and caught and released over 100 fish. White
blade bait was hot for some, my best bait was green jig, black twister
tail tipped with Gulp smelt minnow.
April 21 - John Sparkman

went out about 10:30; fished the Trenton Channel. Slow day. Fished
for 8 hours and managed to catch 15 males. Switched to 4" zoom
imitation shad minnows which seemed to pick the bite up in the afternoon.
Also caught one (horror upon horror) white bass. Hope he was
just lost! Anyone else catching those dreaded white bass?
Three of us went out around 10:45am. Fished the Trenton
Channel above Calf Island. Was really windy; most fishermen stayed
in the shallows. We stayed in the middle, fought the wind and came
out with 15 walleye! Off the water around 5:00. All fish 2 to
3 lbs. Used 3/4 ounce jig and a minnow from Bottomline Bait
& Tackle.
April 16 - Mark
Schaller Went out handlining tonight with John
Lewandowski down in the channel. We picked up 6 fish and probably
lost just as many. All fish came on either Chartreuse or Orange
Rapala's, size #9. Water is getting clearer.
April 14 - Mark
Schaller Well, after managing to lose two fish and then
wrapping my shank up in my prop I caught 3 nice males all around 20 inches
long. Caught every one on a #7 Orange/Gold Rapala out in the Trenton
Channel. Water was dirty and a tepid 47 degrees. Only fished
for about an hour and a half and went in at 8:30 pm. Finally, fish
in the freezer

best bite was at depth 40 to 48 feet, we used plastics - Wyandotte
worm black & brown, with pink & chartreuse jigs, water temp around
46 deg. Weather was rough, wind was a little strong, but the fish seem to
bite good when the weather is not cooperating. good luck every one be safe
& tight lines
April 10 - Jerry Hinton We
gave the walleye a break today and went perchin'. Mike Pasik and I, along
with my neighbor and his 2 kids. Wind out of the east was terrible and
cutting. Fished all around Boblo. Caught about 40 keepers and took a
29" pike at the cross dike. Could have done better but just too cold
for the little ones. And Me!!! Most fish were 8-10, no lunkers!

April 7 - Jerry Hinton and
Mike Pasik fished the Trenton channel this AM and found fishing very slow.
That is until I caught a 11 3/4lb 29 3/4" walleye south of the water
intake in 5' of water. Had one other hawg on but that was the only fish.
And we didn't mind too much. And Mike did a great job netting the fish! It
is in the freezer being prepped for the wall!
April 7 - Matt Hamilton First
time ever to the Detroit River (Trenton Channel) did not fair well for us.

April 1 - Bill Berwick
Bill Tucker and I went out Sunday 3/30 10:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
near the stacks in Trenton. Water clarity was good. Main
part of the river was only 35 degrees, but we fished near the warm water
discharge and found water about 47 degrees. Fished 4 ft to 8
ft of water. One walleye (4 lbs) in 7.5 feet of water. 3/8
Chartreuse jig and live bait Emerald Shiner. One other fish
(Sucker). Saw a couple of other fish caught in the
same area, and it was great to be out there.

the lower river Trenton channel below the stacks, river temp was 37 main
stream 40-44 below the discharge, watch your temp gauge and stay in the
warm stuff, 3/8 firetiger jigs with stingers, walleye minnows, no
plastic, see pictures below. http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/forum/showthread.php?t=229139
Mar 29 - Mark Schaller Well
that was a bust........
Fished for 3 hours and all I caught was some old line, probably some of
mine from last year. Water temp. was 35.4 degrees from Calf Island
all the way up to the Catamaran. About 40 boats out and I didn't see
a single net go into the water.

I'm trying to respond to your e-mail, but it keeps getting rejected by

Went out this afternoon, if anyone is still wondering if it is
too early than go here and scroll down to the picture.
http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/forum/showthread.php?t=228329
Surface temp in the discharge area was 37 to 38 degrees, every place else
it was around 34 degrees. Didn't catch anything either. When
that south wind picked up I got out of there.

Mar 19 - Charles
Britton
For those to faraway to check on the Detroit river ice , go to DWF
home page. In the right hand column box click on Dossin Museum River
Cam and you will see the ice flowing south. (live as it happens)
good luck! Click HERE
live river web cam
Mar 18 - Eric Bishop Thanks
to Charles Britton. Some of us Detroit River hounds wait all winter just
to get that all clear on the ice floats so we can come down and get in the
stink of the underside of our boats. Some of us live 235 miles away, and don't
care if we limit out we just love being on the Detroit River, and it all
hinges on the ice flows, if they're gone we are there, if there still
there, we are still gone. Keep us posted we have cabin fever and are going
nuts
Mar 16 - Charles Britton People
were catching perch at the cross dike using small boats to get there, tried
to go Sunday 3-16-08 lots of floating ice, looks like that's over, good
luck
Mar 16 - Tony Hall I went out
of Erie Metro Park this afternoon. Lots of guys ice fishing on the
south side of the cross dike, and a couple guys jiggin' the channel on the
east side of sugar. We didn't catch a thing just nice to chop
through some ice
Mar 12 - Greg Warsow I
went by Lake Erie Metro Park today and there were about 7 boat trailers in
the parking lot. Somebody's fishing! Any reports on fish and
ice in the river?
Feb 2 - Jim Barta Hey guys (and
gals), I realize that this is strictly for fishing reports, but I didn't
know how else to speak to my DWF family. Please forgive me this once. It
sure isn't the same living here in Alabama. No perch and, worse of all NO
WALLEYES! I certainly miss everyone at DWF and the good times we had. It
just doesn't seem right not getting out on the river to jig up those big
'Eyes. I hope everyone stays safe this year and enjoys a great season of
fishing. God bless to all!
Jan 8 - John Sparkman Monday got 86 by Humbug behind breakwall many
jumbos some 12-13 incher's
Jan 4 - Mike Zielinski Visited
Ballenger Park in River Rouge Tues., about 8 guys were there and catching
decent perch on a regular basis using emerald shiners in about 3-4 feet of
water. North end seemed to have best results, saw several guys with 15 to
25 perch. Said they had been fishing about 2 hrs. A few were jumbos ( over
10 in.)but most were around 8 in. One angler said it had been pretty good
since last of Nov. and if the run remains the same as last year it should
continue into early spring. Better than sitting on the couch.
